Two similar burglaries were reported in Marion County this past weekend.
The sheriff’s office investigated a burglary and theft this weekend at the Florence Quarry. About $1,600 worth of power and hand tools were stolen from a shed. There did not appear to be forced entry around the premises, Sheriff Robert Craft said.
Craft said officers will check Craigslist and pawnshops for the stolen items. Craft added that the Sheriff’s office cooperates with Wichita and Sedgwick County authorities.
“They check to see if something has been sold at pawn shops that we’re looking for,” Craft said.
The second burglary occurred within the city limits of Peabody. Craft was not sure of the details of the crime, but knew similar items were stolen.
Although it happens occasionally, Craft said it is very difficult for Sheriff’s officers to catch a burglary in process.
“We have one or two guys for 900 miles,” Craft said.
