The older people get, the more difficult personal care routines can become.
Marion County Home Care understands this issue, and has been offering help to those in need, including a toenail trimming service at senior centers across the county.
“At this point it’s mainly just foot care,” Marion County Home Care director Penni Ens said. “A lot of the elderly have issues with their feet. They may have thicker nails and it is not something they can do easily on their feet.”
For $20, a person can get a toenail trim, filing, and dremeling, which works on feet calluses. The service has been expanded across the county.
“We used to be at Marion senior center two times a month,” Ens said. “Now we’ve also expanded it to Hillsboro two times a month.”
Other centers around the county can get the service as long as four or five people sign up, Ens said.
“We’re trying to meet some of the needs of the elderly so they don’t’ have to go so far,” Ens said.
Ens also said those who are not seniors can use the service as well.
