Volleyball sub state to be at Peabody-Burns

Staff writer

For the first time in almost 20 years, Peabody-Burns will be the location on Oct. 27 for 1A divisional sub state tournament.

“I believe it hasn’t been here since 1987,” coach Sheena Gann said. “I told the girls that last night and they were extremely excited.”

Another first for the volleyball team is its own separate senior night.

Senior night and Dig Pink for Breast Cancer will be Oct. 11 at Brown gymnasium. The event used to take place in collaboration with football’s senior night.

“I took it to the new athletic director and said, ‘We need to honor them for their sweat, blood, and tears on their own court,’ so that’s what we’re doing,” Gann said.

Though the Warriors lost to Elyria Christian Eagles Saturday, Gann felt the team was still more competitive.

“Earlier this season I had said I wanted us to be competitive and I feel we have stepped up our competitiveness,” Gann said. “I’m very proud of how hard they’re working and they’re working well together.”

Peabody-Burns faced off against Little River and Canton-Galva on Tuesday.

“I’m definitely excited and the girls are excited to be playing at home,” Gann said. “I feel like we’re much more prepared and I’m excited to see how tonight unfolds.”

Scores for Tuesday’s games were not available by press time.
