Volunteers needed for symphony

Marion County recently was selected as the gateway community for pre-symphony activities for the fourth annual Symphony in the Flint Hills, June 13, 2009.

As part of the concert, Florence has been chosen as the location for the pre-symphony activities.

A steering committee is planning a meeting at noon Oct. 4 at Grandview Park, Florence, for volunteers interested in planning the event which could attract up to 30,000 people. A free lunch will be provided at the meeting.

Emily Hunter, executive director of the Symphony in the Flint Hills, will speak at the meeting and will be available to answer questions.

The symphony will be on the Turkey Springs Ranch which is a part of Doyle Creek Land & Cattle Company.

Food and craft vendors and entertainers will be needed June 12 and 13, 2009, in downtown Florence.
