Warrior gals finish 3rd in tourney

Two road trips produced wins for the Peabody-Burns High School volleyball team at Little River Sept 4 and at the Solomon tournament on Saturday.

The Warriors finished third in the Solomon tournament, recording victories against Solomon, 25-23 and 25-21, and Wakefield, 25-11 and 25-13. They lost to Inman, 24-26, 25-20, and 10-25, and to Elyria, 18-25, 25-23, and 14-25.

The squad defeated Little River, 21-25, 25-15, and 25-20, and Hope, 25-17 and 25-21 on Sept. 4 in Little River.

Solomon

In the Solomon match, Kaycy Gonzalez and Katy Benson got the team off to a good start with a 3-1 lead. Paige Lewis, Gonzalez and Rayna Barnes all contributed kills in the game one 25-23 win. In game two, Gonzalez got on the board with an ace followed by kills from Barnes, Lewis and Benson for the 25-21 victory.

Brandee Burnett served eight consecutive service points in the game one win, 25-11, over Wakefield. Benson, Barnes, Gonzalez, and Lewis all recorded kills in game two. Cierra Foth had an ace in the 25-13 win.

An even game one with Inman ended in a 24-26 loss for the Warriors. Gonzalez had the first kill for squad, followed by a point from Benson. Burnett, Barnes, Lewis, Brianna Larsen and Foth each recorded points in the loss. Game two was all PBHS with points from Lewis, Gonzalez and McKenzie Ensminger. The Lady Warriors came up short in game three, scoring 10 points. Larsen and Benson combined for two points and Lewis and Ensminger also scored.

Game one with Elyria featured kills from Larsen, Lewis and Barnes. Burnett added an ace but PBHS lost, 18-25. Game two went to the PBHS squad, 25-23, with tip points from Larsen and Barnes and kills from Gonzalez, Lewis, and Barnes. PBHS had points from Burnett and Gonzalez in game three but lost 25-14.

Little River

Paige Lewis earned three kills to create an early 4-2 lead for PBHS in game one. Cierra Foth got in the game, scoring with an ace. Lewis ended the game with a kill.

The Lady Warriors played game two to an 11-11 tie before Little River went on to take the match, 15-25.

PBHS took a commanding lead, 10-2, in game three with points from Rayna Barnes, Kaycy Gonzalez, Lewis and Brandee Burnett. A Little River rally was stopped and PBHS finished the game with a 25-20 victory.

Hope

Three kills from Barnes helped the Lady Warriors achieve an early 5-2 lead in game one. Aces were added by Burnett and Larsen. Lewis, Gonzalez, and Barnes scored kills late and the Warriors won, 25-17.

Game two was close but Barnes and Lewis combined for 4 points late in the game for the victory.
