Warrior girls defeat Burrton, lose to Berean

The Peabody-Burns High School girls’ basketball team split with a win and a loss this past week. The squad recorded a Dec. 11 victory over Burrton, 47-23, but lost to Berean on Friday, 34-15. Up next, is the final 2012 contest with Centre.

Burrton

PBHS held Burrton to 3 points while the offense scored often in the first quarter with five players getting on the scoreboard. McKenzie Ensminger and Barnes shared the point lead with 6 each. Brianna Larsen, Rylie McDowell and Paige Lewis each had 2 points.

Scoring slowed in the second, but PBHS took the 8-6 edge. Lewis, Ensminger, Larsen, and Barnes all had 2 points each. The Warriors led, 26-9, at the half.

Barnes had a big third quarter adding 7 points. McDowell and Lewis each scored 2 points. Burrton was held to a basket. PBHS finished the third with the 37-11 edge.

PBHS wrapped up the fourth with 10 points. Lewis led with 4 points. Brandee Burnett, Barnes and Jordan Gibson each had 2 points. The Chargers added 12 in the final period. PBHS took the win, 47-23.

Barnes led the Warriors in scoring with 17 points. Lewis was second on the team with 10 points.

Berean Academy

The battle of the Warriors went to Berean in the first quarter 10-5. PBHS had a 3-pointer from Lewis and a 2-point basket by Burnett.

Berean added 8 points in the second quarter. Foul trouble hampered the PBHS squad with Barnes on the bench for significant minutes. Lewis had the only 2 points in the period. Peabody-Burns trailed 18-7 at halftime.

Berean’s offense slowed in the third quarter adding only 6 points but PBHS had no points in the quarter. The Berean lead was 24-7 at the end of the period.

PBHS added 8 points in the final quarter with 3 from Burnett, 2 each from Christa Elliott and Larsen. Lewis scored a free throw. Berean added 10 and took the 34-15 win.

Lewis led Peabody-Burns scorers with 6 points.
