Warriors boys back up to normal numbers

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns boys’ basketball coach Caleb Good has more choices to make this year, and that’s a good thing.

“This year we have a total of 18 players,” Good said. “Last year we were down in numbers compared to what it normally is.”

The team’s ultimate goal for the beginning of the season is getting back into the swing of things.

“For right now,” Good said, “we’re looking forward to getting back at it and see how we have improved from a year ago and how advanced we can be.”

Though the team only lost two seniors to graduation last year, half of the players this year are still new to the team.

“We’ve got probably six freshmen, and then maybe two or three other guys that are new to the team,” Good said.

The team has only two seniors again this year — Austin Reynolds and Jayton Scott.

“They are stepping up,” Good said. “We’ve got a handful of other guys that are doing very well, too.”

This year, the team has been working on getting to know one another and their playing skills.

“We’ve just been trying to get our chemistry down and have everybody gel,” Good said. “It’s nice because the guys we have back are the older guys, so they’ve been able to step in and help the younger guys learn and get acclimated to how we do things.”

Peabody Warriors will play at home Friday against Herington Railers and Tuesday in Marion at Sports and Aquatic Center.
