Warriors boys victorious over Herington Railers

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns boys’ basketball team started its season off with a win of 45-42 over the Herington Railers Friday.

Coach Caleb Good said he felt the team performed really well for their first game of the season.

“I was very pleased with our effort and our resiliency as the Railers kept trying to make a comeback,” Good said. “We kept our composure and kept fighting.”

Good said the team had big contributions from many players.

“Pablo stepped up for us and then Derik Newman and Chance Elliot had some big time plays down the stretch,” Good said.

This week, Warriors play in the Marion Classic basketball tournament at the Sports and Aquatic Center. Girls start at 7 p.m. Friday, with the boys playing later.

Good is excited about the tournament, but playing against teams not in their league means more preparation is needed.

“We just have to keep getting better,” Good said. “We will have to be very focused and ready to go to be able to play at a high level this week.”
