Warriors lose to Centre, rebound against Flinthills

The Peabody-Burns boys’ basketball team split its first games of 2014 last week. Tuesday the team lost 67-47 at Centre. Friday, the Warriors defeated Flinthills 41-33. Next, the team has a home game against White City and a road trip to Wakefield.

Centre

The Warrior offense started slow in the first quarter. Xavier Jabary, Braxton Kyle and Garret Schroeder scored two points each and Nick Preheim contributed a free throw.

The Cougars scored 16, and PBHS trailed 16-7 at the end of the period.

While the PBHS offense improved slightly in the second quarter, Centre poured in 26. Jabary led the Warriors with eight points. Centre led 42-19 at halftime.

PBHS gained no ground in the third quarter as both teams scored 11. Schroeder paced the Warriors with four points. Kevin Baatrup got on the board with a 3-pointer, and Jabary and Kyle each added two. At the end of three, the Warriors were down 53-30.

PBHS scored 17 in the fourth quarter, while the Cougars added 14. Schroeder scored six in the final quarter. Jabary had four and Cody Partridge added three. Baatrup made a two-point basket and Kyle and Enrique Palazon each added a free throw. PBHS lost 67-47.

Scoring

Flinthills

PBHS had an 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Kyle led the team with seven points.

A physical second quarter produced no points from the floor for the PBHS squad. Kyle made three free throws and Baatrup added one. Flinthills scored seven and the game was tied at 15 at halftime.

Both teams scored eight points in the third quarter and the game was even at 23 at the end of the period. Baatrup scored four from the field. Jabary and Schroeder each scored a basket.

PBHS managed to increase the lead in the fourth quarter, outscoring Flinthills 18-10. Eight points came from the free-throw line. The Warriors won 41-33.
