On this earth, we often wonder what is coming next. Blizzard? Ice-storm? Tornados? Floods? Drought? And those possibilities lead to anxiety. And more questions. Why does God allow this? After all, don’t insurance companies refer to natural calamities as “acts of God?” So it must be God’s fault, right?
Not so fast.
It’s easy to confuse the cause with the effect, and when we do we miss a key distinction. Sin brought devastating consequences to our physical planet, not just to our spiritual existence. Death and decay were unleashed because Adam and Eve made a choice — a really bad choice. One each of us willingly repeats. And God is allowing all the elements of His creation to suffer the consequences.
“But doesn’t God have the power to stop it all?” someone may ask. And the answer is “Yes.” Someday He will completely destroy this world and create a new heaven and new earth where only righteousness dwell.
You have no choice about whether or not you were born into this world. But you can have a choice about whether or not you are a part of that one by being born-again. Choose wisely.
