Observance of World Day of Prayer will be at 12:15 p.m. March 7 at Peabody Senior Center.
The event is a global ecumenical movement of informed prayer, which dates back to 1812 when it became interdenominational. In 1927, it became known as World Day of Prayer.
Each year the message focuses on a country and a specific theme. In 2013, the country was France and the message was “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”
This year the country is Egypt and the theme is “Streams in the Desert.” With serious upheaval in Egypt and Christians being martyred, World Day of Prayer organizers emphasize the need for prayer on their behalf.
Lunch is available at the senior center at 11:45 a.m., prior to the program. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (620) 983-2226. The program will follow at 12:15 p.m.
