Three seniors tied for valedictorian of the Class of 1986, achieving perfect 4.0 averages during four years at Marion High School. The co-valedictorians are Lynette Lalouette, Chantal Nienstedt, and Debbie Socolofsky.

Karen Genandt, with a 3.94 average, was salutatorian. The outstanding senior girl award went to Genandt, and the outstanding senior boy award went to Craig Brock.

Workers need a week of good weather to finish work on a new US-56 bridge over the Cottonwood River. The new bridge will replace a hazardous single-lane trestle built in the 1920s. The old bridge will be torn down once the new one opens.

A new performing arts award was handed out Thursday during Marion High School’s awards concert. The Class of 1964 created the award in memory of Chris Hauser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Hauser of Marion.

The award went to senior Craig Brock, who also received the John Philip Sousa band award, outstanding vocal musician award, and artist of the year award.

Doug Regnier and Jami Shirley have been hired as directors of Marion Community Athletic Association’s recreation program for the summer.

Marion County Hospital District’s medical clinic at Florence will be closed temporarily because of a shortage of physicians after the resignation of Jeffrey Martin. The district’s clinic at Lincolnville will be kept open but staffed according to a new schedule.
