The Personality Profile of the week features lean and lanky Max Tharp, fourth generation farmer and stockman in Marion County. Max’s great-grandfather, Joel Tharp, settled with his family on a homestead southwest of Marion in 1871. The family included Atwell, father of Max’s father, Oliver.
Studded tires must be removed from vehicles by Thursday, according to Kansas law. Those operating vehicles with studded tires after April 15 are subject to arrest.
The U.S. Air Force has announced an open house 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Burns Radar Bomb Scoring Site near Burns.
Mr. and Mrs. Rendel Newsom returned April 1 following several months in Basrah, Iraq, with their daughter and her family, Mr. and Mrs. Kassim Tabatabai, Susan, Amina, and Muna. Kassim Tabatabai is chief engineer for a $2-million steel plant in Basrah.
Delegates have been named for Boys State and Girls State. Going to Girls State will be Carol Colburn and Cindy Harris. Alternates are Teresa Enos and Teresa Waner. Delegates to Boys State are Gary Boyle, Brad Heerey, Van Kerns, and Marc Smith. Alternates are David Hett and Ed Vinduska.
Vicki Melcher of Lincolnville will have a free Easter egg hunt Saturday in the Lincolnville park. One hunt will be for children up to 5 years old, and another for children 6 to 12 years old. Prizes of five silver dollars. Other gifts will be given.
