Jim Van Tuyl

Private inurnment for former Burns resident James “Jim” Elmer Van Tuyl, 71, who was cremated after he passed away June 5 at his home in Alamo, Texas, will be scheduled later.

Born Jan. 21, 1955, in El Dorado, he spent most of his life as an over-the-road truck driver based in Washington, D.C., for the federal government.

After retirement, he returned to Burns to assist his mother, Wanda Van Tuyl, until her death.

During her lifetime, the two of them split time between Burns and Alamo. After her death, he made his permanent home in Alamo.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his father, Stanley Van Tuyl Sr.; his brother, Stanley Van Tuyl Jr.; and his sister, Barbara Van Tuyl Bathfield.

Survivors include sisters Rosemary Van Tuyl Carnahan (and husband Wayne) of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Dawn Van Tuyl Moews of Lawrence; seven nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; and five great-great nieces and nephews.
