Owner says shop still brewing

Staff writer

Rumors that The Sit Down coffee shop is closing are unfounded, owner Kirsten Dahlgren said.

“I don’t know how the idea spread,” Dahlgren said.

It may stem from a period when the business and building were listed for sale. The listing has since been removed, and the shop remains open.

“I was selling it with the business, the coffee shop, to keep it open,” she said.

Customers continue to come in thinking the shop has closed, Dahlgren said.

“I’ve had people coming in going, ‘Oh, you’re here. I’m so glad. I thought you were closed,’ ” she said.

She briefly considered leaving Marion to be closer to family members, but those plans changed.

“It wasn’t like I didn’t like Marion or didn’t like my house or the business,” Dahlgren said.

Compounding confusion, Dahlgren said she was away part of the year operating a separate summer business out East. That may have led some to think that she had left permanently.

She has since given up that venture after 12 years.

Now focused solely on the coffee shop, Dahlgren said she planned to stay and grow the business.

“My plan is to be here,” she said.

Dalhgren wants to hire staff and reduce her current workload of about 60 hours a week.

The Sit Down is at 3rd and Santa Fe Sts. and is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
